Family Centers, Support Groups & Webinars

Our Family Coalition: A San Francisco Bay Area-based nonprofit organization that works to provide services and support to LGBTQ+ families. They offer educational training, playdates, child care, workshops, and online support groups.  Some of their reoccurring support groups include:

    • Queer and Trans BIPOC Parent Peer Support Group
    • Prospective and Expectant Parent Peer Support Group
    • Non-Bio/Non-Gestational Parent Peer Support Group
    • Postpartum Parent Peer Support Group

LGBTQ Perinatal Wellness Center: A San Francisco Bay Area-based collaborative of LGBTQ+-identified wellness practitioners. They offer LGBTQ+ family & community-building events, classes, support groups, and clinical services. Some of their reoccurring support groups include:

    • Community Support Circles for Intentional Solo Parenting
    • Non-birth Parent Meetup

Family Equality: A national LGBTQ+ family rights organization that offers a wide variety of recurring and one-off support groups and webinars relating to fertility, pregnancy, parenthood, and more. Some of their reoccurring support groups include:

    • Biweekly TTC/Fertility Peer Support Space
    • Biweekly Trans, Non-binary, and Gender Non-Conforming Parents Meetup

Pact: An Adoption Alliance: A queer-and-trans-affirming organization working to serve adopted children of color and their families. They host a wide variety of webinars, with poly-inclusive and BIPOC-centered support for those seeking to expand their families through adoption and foster care.

COLAGE (Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere): A national organization empowering the children of queer and trans parents. COLAGE has three active affinity groups:

    • People with Trans Parents
    • Retro COLAGErs
    • Adult COLAGErs

Love Over Fear Wellness & Birth: An online support group for queer parents, both current and expectant, to connect and be supported.

Rainbow Families: A nonprofit focusing in LGBTQ+ family education, support, resources, and programming. Offers the following online support groups:

    • Non Gestational Parent Support Group
    • New Parent & Pregnancy Support Group
    • Pre-Conception Support Group

BORN Collective: A San Francisco Bay Area-based trio of experienced birth workers who offer doula services, classes, and a Queer Family Group, operating as a hybrid of both online and in person meet-ups alternating from San Francisco to the East Bay.

The Seed & Sprout Community: Provides space for 2SLGBTQIA community members looking for family building support. Seed & Sprout responds to the specific needs of 2SLGBTQ+ families through inclusive reproductive support, education, and community programming. Offer Fertility, Pregnancy, and Postpartum Doula Care; Family Building Workshops & Education; Monthly Support Groups (fertility, pregnancy, solo parenting); Community Events & Gatherings; Annual Family Pride Dance party for youth; External trainings on inclusivity and affirming care; Access to all other Birth Mark Services. Birthing and Breast or Chestfeeding Trans People and AlliesA Facebook support group for trans people and allies to share stories, ask questions, and build community.


Fertility Centers & Health Care

LGBTQ Perinatal Wellness Center: A San Francisco Bay Area-based collaborative of LGBTQ+-identified wellness practitioners. They offer LGBTQ+ family & community-building events, classes, support groups, & clinical services.

Kaiser Multi-Specialty Transition (MST) Center: Located in Oakland, CA; the MST center offers a wide range of gender-affirming services such as surgery, internal medicine, gynecology, mental health, social work, and nursing.

The Sperm Bank of California: Located in Berkeley, CA; a queer-and-trans-affirming sperm bank.

Reproductive Science Center: Located in the San Francisco Bay Area; a queer-and-trans-affirming fertility center.

Growing Generations: A full-service queer-and-trans-affirming surrogacy and egg donation agency.

Ingersoll Gender Center: Offers a directory of gender affirming healthcare providers in the Seattle area.

Open Arms Perinatal Services: Provides free community-based support to birthing people in Washington State. They advance birth equity by providing families with doulas, lactation support peer counselors, childbirth educators, and resource navigators. Their providers are matched based on culture, LGBTQIA identity, ethnicity, preferred language, and region served. Their comprehensive support results in healthy outcomes for families.


Mental Health Resources

Family Paths: Offers mental health services and a 24-hour parent support and resource hotline.

National Queer & Trans Therapists of Color Network: A national network of queer and trans therapists of color seeking to increase access to healing justice resources for queer and trans people of color.

Trans Lifeline: A trans-led hotline offering peer support for our community. US: (877) 565-8860, Canada: (877) 330-6366.

Pacific Center for Human Growth: The oldest LGBTQ+ center in the San Francisco Bay Area. Offers a sliding scale mental health clinic for queer and trans people and their families.

The Trevor Project: The leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ people ages 13-24.

The LGBT National Hotline: Provides telephone, online private one-to-one chat, and email peer-support, as well as information and local resources across the United States.

Grateful Heart Therapy: A majority LGBTQIA+ group of therapists offering affordable and caring teletherapy for the San Francisco Bay Area and California at large.


Pregnancy & Substance Use Resources

Harm Reduction Doulas: Companions families and individuals who use substances, with a focus on people experiencing homelessness. Located in King County, Washington, HRDC provides full spectrum doula support and community resources, as well as harm reduction training to individuals and organizations.

Academy of Perinatal Harm Reduction: An educational and non-judgmental resource guide for parents who use substances and are interested in evidence-based information and support. Offers pamphlets on the known effects of various drugs during pregnancy.


Abortion, Miscarriage & Infant Loss Resources

Return to Zero: HOPE: A national nonprofit that offers LGBTQ+ affirming resources and support for pregnancy and infant loss. Currently, they offer a virtual support group called “LGBTQ+ Affirming Space for Pregnancy and Infant Loss (Birthing and Non-Birthing Parents.)”

The Miscarriage and Abortion HotlineOffering resources and support relating to miscarriage and abortion. Available from 8AM-11PM in all US time zones at 1-833-246-2632.

All-Options Talkline: For those who are pregnant and unsure about what to do next, the All-Options talkline can be reached at 1-888-493-0092 from anywhere in the United States or Canada.

The Repro Legal Helpline: A free, confidential helpline where you can get legal information or advice about self-managed abortion, young people’s access to abortion or judicial bypass, and referrals to local resources.

Cascades Abortion Support Collective: An Oregon-based group of volunteers who offer free, confidential abortion and reproductive health care support. You can call or text their warm-line and they will get back to you within 24 hours.

Exhale: A service which offers nonjudgmental after-abortion support. They are available to text in the United States and Canada at 617-749-2948, Weekdays 3 p.m. – 9 p.m, Saturdays 1 p.m. – 9 p.m, and Sundays 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. (U.S. Pacific Time).

Plan C: A guide to accessing at-home abortion pills.

Sam’s Medication Abortion: A comic by Kit Mills via the Reproductive Health Access Project that depicts a trans individual’s experience of at-home abortion pills.

The National Network of Abortion Funds: Hosts a master list of abortion funds across the country. Warning: some abortion funds may include gendered language, which can be uncomfortable for some individuals. La Leche League International: Offers resources for trans and nonbinary individuals interested in chestfeeding.

Milk Junkies’ Guide to Using an At-Chest Supplementer: A detailed guide on using an at-chest supplementer, a great option for those who have had top surgery or have low milk production but would still like to chestfeed.

Birthing and Breast or Chestfeeding Trans People and AlliesA Facebook support group for trans people and allies to share stories, ask questions, and build community.

Reproductive Education & Training

Trans Fertility Co.: An educational website on transgender fertility housing articles pertaining to trans fertility, interviews, online training for health care providers, and even a shop! A project of Collaborate Consulting, ran by Trystan Reese.

Kayden X Coleman: A trans father and activist who shares his lived experiences as a Black gay man in his panels, conferences, workshops, educational trainings, sensitivity trainings, consultations, and public speeches.

king yaa: king yaa is a genderqueer person of trans masculine experience and their sexuality is queer AF. Their Blackness is their superpower! king is an intersectional feminist and their work centers queer, trans, and non-binary folx well-being through full spectrum of life experiences, including grief & loss and sex & pleasure. They also train intentional health and wellness practitioners on developing the competencies to care for and to create safer and inclusive practices for queer, trans and gender diverse people.

Cornerstone Doula Training: Offers a variety of queer-and-trans-inclusive birthwork training courses.

Transgender Law Center: The largest national trans-led organization fighting for transgender rights in the legal sector.

ACLU’s Guide to Protecting The Rights Of Transgender Parents And Their Children for Parents and Lawyers: While the publication was made in 2013, many of the details can still be applied to current issues affecting transgender parents and their children.


Conferences

The Modern Family Show: An educational family-building conference taking place in the UK and the United States. Created to safely guide and support the queer and trans community in understanding their options when it comes to expanding their family. Topics include Surrogacy and IVF/IUI, Adoption, Fostering, Co-Parenting, Fertility Preservation, Solo Parenting, and Egg/Sperm Donation.

Rainbow Families’ LGBTQ+ Family ConferenceAn educational and inspirational conference held in Washington DC. Offering a wide variety of workshops geared to help queer and trans families, as well as offer resources and information to those seeking to start or expand their family.
